jd…aka Scarlett

jd young, aka Scarlett, is a displaced Bronx native now living in Virginia with her husband. She has published four books with three more in the works. The first two books, Scarlett’s Letters and The Butter Pecan Diaries have been described as Erma Bombeck meets Dave Barry. Both books enjoy a Five Star review on Amazon.

She was featured in the Writer’s Digest 2014 Fall Author Spotlight for her novel The Woman on Pritchard Street, which is the first book in the Vasile Chronicles Trilogy. Her newest offering–Dancing With Demons & Other Bedtime Stories–opens the door to an intense and much darker view of life. Perhaps her remote and heavily wooded haven, complete with moonlight shadows and bumps in the night, fuels an imagination that moves unnervingly from ordinary to fearful to bizarre.

Dancing With Demons is not bedtime reading for the faint of heart. According to Young, “We have come to believe that evil and terror wear masks that are easily identifiable. These stories will encourage you to rethink everything you thought was safe–even the elevator in which you ride.”

Dancing With Demons received an outstanding review by the New York Journal of Books. As one reader put it, “These aren’t your grandmother’s fairy tales–Mother Goose has grown up.”

Her short stories and prose have been published in the Fredericksburg Literary Review as well as several Anthologies, including “The Writers of Chantilly” and “The Pen to Paper Writers.” An active member of the Lake Authors, she is also a member of the Riverside Writers and Windmore Foundation for the Arts and has conducted writing classes for their members.
